Advanced low-carbon fuel (LCF) producers and project developers in the UK face the highest electricity prices in Europe, impacting their competitiveness and economic viability. As we have argued previously, RTFA considers that advanced LCFs should in principle be eligible for support under the BICS, which is projected to reduce manufacturers’ electricity costs by around 25%.

In this consultation, we recommend:

  • Setting a minimum electricity threshold so scheme administration costs do not outweigh savings; and
  • Permitting project developers to use forecasted electricity usage data to determine whether new manufacturing sites should be eligible for support.
