The DfT recently reviewed its decision to double reward unrefined liquid dextrose ultrafiltration retentate (ULDUR).  Click here for the consultation. This consultation was carried out at the request of the RTFA and UK bioethanol producers.

In our view the material is clearly a co-product and not a waste.

In summary the wet mill making the application to the DfT had always intended to produce ethanol from ULDUR, and the only material outcome of the decision is that the decarbonisation impact of the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation is halved at the expense of UK bioethanol producers.  (It is actually more than halved).

This is one of the many challenges facing the UK bioethanol industry.
