Our response sets out our concerns that the business model may

  • preferentially incentivise out-of-sector decarbonisation – which goes against one of the Government’s own guiding principles for deploying GHG removals
  • encourage an end-of-pipe solution to carbon emissions (i.e. CCS) rather than an integrated approach (i.e. avoiding the production of the CO2 in the first place), and
  • encourage the continuation of power production from MSW, when using it as low carbon fuel feedstock is a better environmental option
