We fully support the introduction of a mandate for SAF.  It must be implemented in a way which does not undermine the decarbonisation of road transport, and results in a domestic SAF manufacturing capability.  Our membership comprises both aviation and road transport interests, putting us in a unique position to respond to this consultation.  Our response argues that

  • the mandate must operate in parallel with a Contracts for Difference programme
  • the SAF mandate should be a GHG-based mechanism
  • there must be parity with the RTFO in terms of incentive levels and the GHG saving regulations must be reinstated
  • the SAF mandate should be aligned with the RTFO on sustainability aspects
